GATEWAY: Dr. Thomas Walker & the Opening of Kentucky
This is a very well written, photographed and illustrated book that reveals many little known truths about the origins of Kentucky and the migration west through Cumberland Gap. It is a must read for all students of early Kentucky history. Virtually every other page contains either a map, illustration or beautiful photograph. The photography by world-renowned photographer, Adam Jones, is simply stunning! In truth, it is the photography of Adam Jones that first attracted me to this outstanding book. As a student of early Kentucky history, I consider this book in particular to be indispensable to understanding the truth surrounding the opening of Kentucky and all points west. This is a truly great historical work, replete with bibliograhical references, indicative of the author's extensive research. Therefore, I highly recommend it!

Generous Jefferson Bartleby Jones
Published in Paperback by Alyson Pubns (April, 2000)
Authors: Forman Brown and Leslie Trawin
Average review score:

Children's Book Explores Two Dad Families
GENEROUS JEFFERSON BARTLEBY JONES by Forman Brown, is a story told in rhyming verses about young Jeff and his two fathers. Jeff has a lot to feel good about because of the four days out of the week he spends with his dads, they always find exciting things to do like hiking, farming, horseback riding, or taking trips to the zoo. Jeff's best friends, Chad and Kim, don't feel as lucky as Jeff because they have only one dad each. Jeff generously loans out his dads, sometimes to Kim and other times to Chad. One day he loans both other dads out on the same day and is left alone. In the space of only four lines, we are told that Jeff lives with his mother on unspecified number of days out of the week, and with his two fathers the remaining time. The accompanying illustration gives a profile of the mother. Each page is filled with illustrations and verses which add more detail to the characters. Kim, who is Asian, loves baseball and is a Little League catcher. Chad, portrayed as a Black or Latino child, enjoys trips to the zoo and playing checkers. The author has nicely displayed children engaging in cross-gender play. Kim and Chad's fathers are too busy to play with them, but one of Jeff's dads are always around. As the story continues, we get a glimpse of some of the activities Jeff and his fathers engage in: farming, because one of his dads knows a farmer; the zoo; swimming; horseback riding; camping and carnivals. These are all activities which may not be in the experiences of children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, particularly those who live in urban areas. Although a bulk of the story focuses on Jeff and his fathers, some further explanation would help the reader better understand this situation than the lines which read, "He moves in with Joe and with Pete, and his friends think his system's a hard one to beat." For children living everyday with their gay parents the experience of "moving in" with their father(s) on weekends would not directly speak to them. For others, who are the subjects of joint custody arrangements, the book may offer an important legitimization of their lives. The black and white illustrations depict great details in the characters and glimpses of their elaborate homes. The verses are fun to read and the message is quite clear that having two dads is something to feel good about. The book is most suitable for children ages four and older.

Genetics and Horse Breeding
Published in Hardcover by Lea & Febiger (June, 1982)
Author: William Elvin Jones
Average review score:

A Winner
I am a breeder of miniature horses and have several books on horse genetics. This book ties all the parts together; the scientific and practical. Since getting this book in September of 2001 I have it with me when I travel as well as by my bedside. I read it almost daily. This is a treasure for serious breeders lucky enough to get a copy. This book can help a breeder better their ability to improve the horse breed.

My only regret is that it is out of print and hard to come by.

This book puts in simple ways how you make this journey into womenhood so much more special. I read about the Wildflower dreams from Ms. Gunn's book "Until Now" and quickly went and found my own wildflowers. I am looking for the opporutnity to start the china plate tradition with my little sister as well as with my aunts and my mother. THank You Mrs. Gunn for a wonderful and much needed book!

recommendable book
One of the most interesting classical Greek texts. If you are interested in the ancient Greco-Roman world, you should read Strabon ! Of course STRABO series in Loeb classical library are the best. But I recommend the book for English-speaking readers.

George Jones Ceramics (Schiffer Book for Collectors)
Published in Hardcover by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. (April, 1998)

George Jones Ceramics
"George Jones Ceramics" has been well researched and is beautifully presented. It is about a major 19th century English pottery business, of which little was known before Robert Cluett's book. Archived collections and histories of nineteenth century potteries have generally been neglected in favour of older potteries and because of museum financial constraints. But they all have a place in the history of ceramics and until this book was produced there were fears that much information about George Jones Pottery would be lost forever. The best part of this beautiful book, for my family, is the history of George Jones' family and descendents which is included. George Jones was my husband's great grandfather.

A compelling look at both the legend and the man
Fleshed out with an additional twenty years of meticulous, exhaustive research and newly revised by Robert E. Jones (Professor of History, Fordham University), George Washington: Ordinary Man, Extraordinary Leader is an informative biography of America's first President. Focusing especially on Washington's trials during the Revolution and his service as President, George Washington: Ordinary Man, Extraordinary Leader is a compelling look at both the legend and the man, his foibles as well as his virtues, and his legacy and contribution to both American and world history. George Washington: Ordinary Man, Extraordinary Leader is very highly recommended for academic and community library American History and Biographical Studies collections.

Why wait till you get to Heaven to be healthy?
This second workbook in the Getting a Grip on the Basics series is just what the Doctor (Jesus) ordered! So many Christians go through their lifetime here on Earth under the "dominion" of sickness, disease and disfunction ... and that's not what God has in mind for His kids! If you're someone who has never studied what Jesus bought and paid for in regards to physical health, healing and mental well-being, then this workbook is for you! I've been teaching the Getting a Grip on the Basics series for over 3 years now, in the Nasville TN area, and everyone who completes a workbook comes away with increased knowledge and ability in God's Word to see the daily value of what Jesus died for! Don't wait till Heaven to be healthy in your body or your mind! Learn the Basics and then see what God can do as you become a "doer of the Word!" Your life will never be the same!

Getting in Touch With Your Dog: A Gentle Approach to Influencing Behavior, Health, and Performance
Published in Paperback by Trafalgar Square (July, 2001)
Author: Linda Tellington-Jones

Linda Tellington-Jones knows!
I will graduate as a TellingtonTTouch Practitioner in July 2003. Please do not think that this will predispose me to think well of this book. I think well of this book because I _know_ it works. When I first started this training, one of my dogs was a lunging, snarling maniac around other dogs. This training has made all the difference!

The book presents the TTouch method in a clear, logical way that any animal owner can use. I have used this method, with great sucess, on dogs, cats, & ferrets.

The wonderful "meet them where they are" & "not expect anything more than they are capable of" philosophy honors the animal and the human.

I would recommend this book to any one who wants a deeper connection with their animals.
